DFCC Bank-Powered 1333 Bikeathon Concludes on World Suicide Prevention Day, Taking the 1333 Lifeline Across Sri Lanka

After 13 days and 1,333 kilometres across Sri Lanka, the riders of the 1333 Bikeathon reached Viharamahadevi Park on 10 September, World Suicide Prevention Day.
The ride had ended. But the conversations it started, and the number it carried, remained.
As they travelled through towns and communities, the riders met people, spoke about mental wellbeing and suicide prevention, and helped spread awareness of the support available through 1333.
They also left behind a simple but important reminder. Stickers carrying the number 1333 were placed in visible community spaces, where people could continue to see them long after the riders had moved on. For someone facing a difficult moment, that sticker could provide the number to call and the reminder that support is within reach.
Organised annually by the CCC Foundation, the 1333 Bikeathon uses a journey across Sri Lanka to begin conversations that are often difficult to start. It encourages people to speak more openly about mental health, to recognise when someone may need support and to understand that asking for help is an act of courage.
DFCC Bank powered the initiative for the third consecutive year, supporting the riders through its branch network as the route travelled across the country. Branch teams welcomed the Bikeathon, joined community-awareness activities and helped take the message of 1333 into the areas they serve.
For the final leg, DFCC Bank staff members joined the riders at the DFCC Bank Moratuwa Branch and cycled with them to Viharamahadevi Park. Their participation reflected the belief at the centre of the initiative: mental wellbeing is not a conversation for specialists alone. Families, friends, workplaces and communities all have a part to play.
The arrival on World Suicide Prevention Day gave deeper meaning to the conclusion of the journey. The closing ceremony included a remembrance segment for lives lost to suicide, reflections from those who had taken part and recognition of the riders who carried the message of 1333 across 1,333 kilometres.
Thimal Perera, Director and Chief Executive Officer of DFCC Bank, addressed the gathering on the importance of making mental health easier to speak about and ensuring that people know where support can be found.
DFCC Bank’s involvement in the Bikeathon extends beyond sponsorship of a national event. Through the initiative, the Bank seeks to help create communities in which people feel able to speak, listen and reach out before distress becomes isolation.
The riders could not know whose life might be changed by seeing a 1333 sticker in a shop or community space. It may be noticed in passing, remembered days or months later, and recalled at the moment someone needs it most.
That is why the number travelled.
Every kilometre created another opportunity for someone to see it. Every stop created another opportunity to speak about it. Every sticker allowed the message to remain after the riders had moved on.
DFCC Bank expressed its appreciation to the CCC Foundation, the riders, volunteers, staff members, branch teams and communities that helped carry the 2026 Bikeathon and its message from one end of the route to the other.
The bicycles crossed the finish line on 10 September. The responsibility carried by the journey belongs to all of us: to notice, to listen and to remind one another that help is within reach.
Every life matters. Reaching out takes courage. Support is available through 1333.
