Sri Lanka FD Rate History

How fixed deposit rates at Sri Lankan banks and licensed finance companies have moved, built from a daily snapshot of every published rate on AnyBanq. Updated 20 October 2026.

Daily tracking of FD rates began on 20 October 2026. Until two days of captures exist, the figures below show today's live market only — trend charts appear automatically as history builds. We never back-fill or estimate past rates.

What the numbers say

The gap between the highest and lowest 12-month rate is 6.75 percentage points today. On a deposit of LKR 1,000,000 for a year, that difference is worth about LKR 60,750 after 10% AIT — choosing where to deposit matters.

By type of institution, state banks average 8.92%, private banks average 9.72%, finance companies average 11.15% for 12 months. Licensed finance companies pay a premium over banks to attract deposits — weigh it against their credit rating and the deposit insurance limit.

Across tenures, 24-month deposits average 11.22% against 8.96% for 3 months — a 2.26 pp premium for locking money away longer.

Fixed deposit guide

Tenures, tax, safety and laddering explained.

Rates are the gross annual rates published by each institution for standard LKR deposits, paid at maturity. Senior-citizen and foreign-currency deposits are excluded from these figures. Past rates do not predict future rates, and nothing here is financial advice. See how we collect and rank rates.

FD rate history — questions

Are fixed deposit rates in Sri Lanka going up or down?

AnyBanq began recording a daily snapshot of every FD rate on 20 October 2026, so the trend line is still short. Today the average standard 12-month rate is 10.31%. Check back — this page updates as each day's capture is added.

Who pays the highest 12-month FD rate right now?

Richard Pieris Finance currently offers the best standard 12-month rate we track, at 13.50% p.a. See the full ranking on our 12-month FD rates page before you decide — the best rate is not always at the institution with the strongest credit rating.

Why do finance companies pay more than banks?

Licensed finance companies generally have a higher cost of funds and less access to cheap current-account deposits than banks, so they offer higher rates to attract fixed deposits. That premium is compensation for higher risk; check the company's credit rating and remember deposit insurance only covers deposits up to a limit per depositor per institution.

Where does this rate history come from?

Every day an automated job records the published rate for every fixed deposit listed on AnyBanq — the full ladder from 1 month to 5 years — into a dated snapshot. Nothing is back-filled or estimated: the history starts on the first day captured. See our methodology for details.

Should I lock in a long-term FD now?

If you expect rates to fall, a longer tenure locks in today's rate; if you expect them to rise, shorter tenures or a ladder of deposits maturing at different dates keep you flexible. Our FD guide explains laddering, and this page is not financial advice.
