Frequently asked questions

What is the tax-free threshold in Sri Lanka?

Personal relief exempts the first portion of annual income (Rs. 1.8 million as of the 2025/26 rules), with slab rates applying above it. Verify current thresholds with the Inland Revenue Department as budgets can change them.

What is the difference between PAYE and APIT?

They refer to the same mechanism: employers deduct Advance Personal Income Tax from salaries under IRD tax tables. PAYE is the older name still in common use.

I have two jobs — how is tax deducted?

Your primary employer applies the standard tax table; secondary employers deduct at rates set for secondary employment. The calculator lets you model both.

Is this an official tax computation?

No — it is an estimate for planning. Your final liability depends on IRD rules, reliefs and any other income you must declare.
