Frequently asked questions
How is a loan EMI calculated?
EMI uses the standard reducing-balance formula: EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r the monthly interest rate and n the number of monthly installments. Most Sri Lankan bank loans are quoted on a reducing balance, which this calculator assumes.
Does a longer loan term lower my cost?
A longer term lowers the monthly installment but increases the total interest paid, because interest accrues for more months. Compare both figures before choosing a term.
Are Sri Lankan loan rates fixed or variable?
Both exist. Many housing loans have a fixed rate for an initial period, then switch to a variable rate linked to AWPLR. If your rate is variable, recalculate the EMI when rates change.
Which bank has the cheapest loan rates in Sri Lanka?
Rates change frequently and vary by product and applicant profile. AnyBanq's loan comparison pages list current rates from over 25 banks and finance companies so you can compare before applying.
