Frequently asked questions

How do banks decide how much I can borrow?

Most Sri Lankan banks cap total monthly debt payments at around 40–60% of net monthly income, depending on the product and income level. They also consider CRIB history, employment stability and collateral.

Why is my estimate different from the bank's offer?

Each bank uses its own ratios, rate assumptions and income assessment (e.g. how allowances and variable pay are counted). Treat the estimate as a planning figure, not a guarantee.

Can I improve my borrowing capacity?

Settling small existing facilities, reducing credit card limits you don't use, and documenting all income sources (including allowances) usually help.
