How we collect these rates
AnyBanq reads each bank's published exchange rates from its website on business days and checks them against the CBSL rate before showing them. A bank whose rates look wrong (for example a currency quoted per 100 units by mistake) is left out until the next check. Rates are LKR per 1 unit of foreign currency. AnyBanq is not affiliated with the banks shown, and this is information, not advice.
Common questions
- Where do these bank rates come from?
- From each bank's own website. AnyBanq reads the rates each bank publishes on business days and shows when each bank's rates were stated or collected. Banks can change their rates during the day, so always confirm with the bank before you transact.
- What is the difference between TT and notes rates?
- TT (telegraphic transfer) rates apply to money moved between accounts: remittances from abroad are converted at the TT buying rate, and payments abroad at the TT selling rate. Notes rates apply when you exchange foreign currency cash at a counter, and the gap between buying and selling is usually wider.
- Which bank gives the best rate for money sent from abroad?
- The bank with the highest TT buying rate for that currency. The table and calculator above rank banks by it. Fees and the sending service's own rate also affect what arrives, so compare the full cost.
- Why are bank rates different from the Central Bank rate?
- The CBSL indicative rate is a reference midpoint. Banks buy currency below it and sell above it, and the gap is their margin. It differs by bank, by currency and by whether it is a transfer or cash.
