How we collect and rank rates
Last updated
AnyBanq compares loans, cards, fixed deposits and savings accounts from Sri Lankan banks and licensed finance companies. This page explains where our numbers come from, how we keep them current, and exactly how our rankings are worked out — so you can judge how far to rely on them.
1. Where the rates come from
Every rate on AnyBanq comes from information the institution itself publishes: its website, rate sheets, product brochures and announcements. Our team enters each product into our content system with its rates by tenure, features, eligibility and fees, linked to the institution that offers it.
We list both licensed banks and licensed finance companies. We do not list deposit-takers that do not appear on the Central Bank of Sri Lanka's licensed lists.
2. Verification and freshness
Each product records the date its details were last verified against the institution's published information. Our internal rate dashboard flags any product not verified for more than 30 days so it is re-checked, and rate changes are applied as soon as we confirm them.
Institutions can change rates without notice, sometimes the same day. Always confirm the rate with the institution before you deposit or borrow; the rate in your agreement is the one that applies.
3. Daily rate history
Once a day an automated job records the rate of every listed product into a dated snapshot. For fixed deposits it stores the full ladder of rates from 1 month to 5 years. A guard ensures only one capture is written per Colombo calendar day.
Our FD rate history is built only from these snapshots. We never back-fill, interpolate or estimate past rates: the history begins on the first day captured, and charts appear once there are at least two days of data. Long histories are sampled (daily for the first three months, then at least weekly) to keep pages fast.
4. How fixed deposits are ranked
- By rate, highest first. Rankings use the institution's published gross annual rate for the selected tenure. Ties are ordered alphabetically by institution.
- Nothing is paid for. Advertising, sponsorship and "Apply now" partnerships do not change a product's position. Ads are labelled and shown separately from rankings. See our editorial policy.
- Like with like. Standard LKR deposits are ranked together. Senior-citizen deposits are ranked on their own page, and foreign-currency deposits are excluded from LKR rankings and averages.
- Standard tenures only. Products with non-standard terms (for example 100- or 500-day specials) or without a published rate ("contact bank") appear on their product pages but not in tenure rankings.
- Institution type. State banks, private banks and finance companies are labelled so you can weigh rate against risk; the label does not affect order.
5. How returns are calculated
Sri Lankan fixed deposits pay simple interest over the term, so interest = deposit × annual rate × (months ÷ 12). Unless you switch it off, we deduct Advance Income Tax of 10% from the interest, as institutions do for resident individuals, and show the net interest and maturity value.
Figures are estimates for the published at-maturity rate. Monthly-payout rates, negotiated rates for large deposits and AIT exemptions (self-declaration) can make your actual return differ.
6. Market averages and statistics
"Market average" is the simple mean of the published rates of all standard LKR products that list the tenure — each product counts once, regardless of the institution's size. "Spread" is the difference between the highest and lowest of those rates. An institution's rate in history tables is the best standard rate among its products on that day.
7. What we don't cover
We do not assess an institution's financial strength beyond showing its type and licence status, and we do not give personal financial advice. Higher rates often compensate for higher risk; read our safe investing guide before depositing large sums.
8. Corrections
Spotted a rate that is wrong or out of date? Email [email protected] or use our contact form with the product and a link to the institution's published rate. Institutions can send rate updates the same way. We verify every report and correct confirmed errors promptly.
